I
know this
is going to seem stupid....it SOUNDS stupid to me when I say it
out loud.
But it WORKS.
Whenever I'm struggling, what I find helps me? Is I get 'super anal' about weighing, measuring (literally levelling off those measuring cups, etc.) and staying OP.
The discipline required to do that ... helps. It's not easy, I won't lie to you....obviously it's much easier to say "I'll just have a little more today, I'm having such a HARD DAY..." or "I need this today, look at how much SNOW I shovelled..." or "I am so SICK AND TIRED of this, the scale isn't moving, maybe if I ate 'more' it will move? (krazy Fat Brain illogic at work here LOL...)"
But DO IT ANYWAY.
WHY? Because...here's the thing...you're 'forcing' your brain to get in line and stop screwing around. You're getting RECOMMITTED to the program. You're telling yourself you will REMOVE any and all obstacles to weight loss stalls or 'why' isn't it moving as fast as I want, etc. You're staying 100% OP and you KNOW you're doing it....
....and in that case, it's simply a matter of PATIENCE!
But it WORKS.

Really! If you're doing the program (provided you don't jump on and off the scale every 5 minutes...) and you're drinking all your water, and you're getting your sleep (sleep IS important, and believe it or not it can affect weight loss), then the program WILL work. It may take a few days. It may take a week. It may even take LONGER than a week.
But eventually you'll start to feel that 'whoosh' feeling....that "Gee, I feel a little lighter today" feeling...and then you'll step on the scale...or pull on those jeans...and.... WHOA! LOOK AT THAT!
I LOVE these times. I love hearing about them. I love the happy dances we all do when we see them.
They are an affirmation of our progress and our success. They are a congratulations for a job WELL DONE.
Look at it this way. It's only 'temporary'. Your saying 'NO', I mean.
I was thinking about it this morning. You know how you go to the doctor's office for a flu shot, say....and they tell you 'It'll just a slight twinge', and ... OUCH! ... but then, it's over.
CRAVINGS can be like that. They can get shorter and shorter...provided you understand it's JUST FAT BRAIN talking.
And/or it's been...hello? 4 hours since your last MF meal? (next time make it 3, OK?)
Or you've been working out particularly hard that morning and your emotions -- PLUS your THIRST (don't mistake thirst for hunger...always always drink something first...it's amazing how often this happens to me, I think "I'm hungry" when actually I'm just dehydrated!), or maybe you're in a stressful situation and so your brain 'automatically' thinks 'FOOD'.
We feed EVERYTHING, right? I sure did...and find myself still wanting to sometimes!
I woke up with sore arms and shoulders. Well, DUH....could it be because I was on my hands and knees with the 'baby vacuum' vacuuming up cat hair (not easy on my living room rug), PLUS I did Pilates yesterday with lots of arm exercises I normally don't do, PLUS I shovelled snow and ICE last night? .... I mean, HELLO?
Of course my arms were sore! But my first thought was "I'm in pain....better take a pill" (which I did), and my SECOND thought was "I'm still in pain (God forbid the pill take longer than 10 minutes to work LOL) so I MUST NEED FOOD".
No I didn't need food. I needed TIME. That's all.
(PS I'm fine now).
We can do strange things to ourselves with our own HEADS. That's all it is. And once you recognize that that's all it is....you can ride it out. You can say 'NO', get anal with your measurements, stay the course....and SUCCEED.
Make it a challenge. It's you against...YOU. (LOL...seriously, that's what it is). It's your SMART side against your animal side.
YOU can win this battle....and the WAR in general. You can get to goal.
All you have to do is get a little bit anal sometimes.
WITHOUT overstressing. Just do what you know you should.
STAY ON PROGRAM.
Don't overthink it, don't question it, don't try to get around it,
JUST DO IT. (think of those Nike commercials...and we're not asking you to put on sneakers and go jogging in the snow, either...all we're asking is that you PUT DOWN THE FORK OR SPOON and start thinking instead).
YOU CAN DO IT!
Hang in there gang. 30 days till Spring!
Keep
on
keepin’ on!
